Glory be to St. Patrick’s, as it was in its beginning, is now, and will be for generations to come.
Update on the Town Hall Meetings Held on November 19 & 20, 2016
Prepared by the Capital Improvements Committee
Approximately 70 parishioners attended the town hall meetings held on November 19 & 20, 2016 to learn about the proposed improvements to the parish campus and to ask questions.
If you missed the meetings, the power point presentation is available for viewing on the parish website at www.stpatrickyork.org.
Below is a summary of some of the issues raised by parishioners:
1. Should the asbestos tiles in the church be removed when the new flooring is installed?
This issue will be reviewed by Murphy & Dittenhafer, the project manager retained by the Committee. There are environmental issues involved with the removal of asbestos, and the project manager can advise the Committee on whether the best option is to remove the asbestos or lay new flooring over it.
2. Would it be cheaper to just replace the pews rather than refinish them and reinstall?
The existing pews are in good shape overall and just need refinishing. The existing pews also have beautiful detail that cannot be replicated in new pews unless they were a special order, which would add to the cost. The kneelers will be replaced.
3. What about handicap access to the sanctuary, cafeteria and choir loft?
This issue drew the most comments. The current scope of work includes providing handicap access to the sanctuary by installing a lift mechanism on the side of the sanctuary where the baptismal font is located. While handicap access to the cafeteria and choir loft would be ideal, there are significant financial and building code issues that need to be considered before that can be added to the scope of work.
4. Is the church foundation sound?
The Committee has not uncovered any structural issues with the foundation of the church. The project manager will be able to confirm that there are no structural issues with the church foundation.
5. Should safety issues be addressed first?
The Committee has proposed a phased schedule that addresses safety concerns first. The project manager will review the phasing schedule to confirm what projects should be included in the first phase.
6. Should the trees be removed from the parking lot area?
This issue will be reviewed by the project manager.
The Committee appreciates the questions and comments received from members of the parish and invite anyone with a question to send an email to [email protected].
